Beyond our breeding animals, Misty Mountain is home to a wonderful collection of much-loved pets — each one with their own big personality.
Meet the Rest of the Family
Our pets are every bit as important to us as our breeding animals. From our four horses to our cheeky alpacas, our fluffy cavoodle to our retired goats — every single one of them has a name, a story, and a very special place in our hearts.
These animals aren't for sale — they're family. We love sharing them with visitors and hope you enjoy getting to know them as much as we do!
Our Horses
Willow
Willow was my very first horse, coming into my life in October 2021 when I knew absolutely nothing about horses — I didn't even know what a Thoroughbred was! Willow is an ex-racehorse, and looking back, choosing an off-the-track Thoroughbred as my first horse certainly threw me in the deep end. But she has been my greatest teacher and is the reason I know what I do about being a horsewoman today — and I wouldn't change any of it. Our relationship was rocky at first. She was distrustful and hurting, while I was intimidated and took everything personally (there were plenty of tears!). But somewhere along the way, we built the most beautiful relationship. Today, Willow is my easy, go-to girl who I trust to do just about anything with. I love her more than words can say.
Princess Theodora (Teddy)
Teddy is my second horse and was a little bit of an impulse buy! I bought her sight unseen, and at the time she was suffering from an extreme case of untreated QLD itch. Long story short, the day we picked her up was one of the most stressful days of my life, and for a while I lived with the constant anxiety that I had made a massive mistake. However, two years later, words cannot describe how much I love this horse. Teddy is the most beautiful girl — willing and eager to learn, patient and understanding, and incredibly smart. She is completely different to Willow, which has been such a nice change of pace while also challenging me to grow my horsemanship in completely new ways. We’ve been up to some pretty special things together lately, and I can’t wait to share more of our journey on our social media pages!
Roxy
Roxy is Mum’s beautiful geriatric mare and what we affectionately call our real-life Barbie horse. With her long blonde mane and tail, she is honestly the prettiest girl! Roxy was given to us to look after, but unfortunately, after a few weeks of enjoying herself galloping around with Willow, arthritis in her knee caught up with her. She is now happily retired as our very beautiful paddock ornament. She may be at the absolute bottom of the pecking order, but she’s just happy to have her little herd around her.
Iridium Budmeister (Buddy)
Buddy is Mum’s 16.1hh “quiet pony” 😂 After losing some confidence under saddle, Mum needed something very much more woah than go — preferably a gelding — and along came Buddy. He is the sweetest, most chilled-out gentle giant. He’ll sleep just about anywhere, couldn’t care less about being away from his girls, and you have to work pretty hard just to convince him to trot! He is exactly what Mum was looking for, and we can’t wait to see where their journey takes them.
Our Alpacas
Duke
Duke (formerly Coco) is the gentleman of our little royal alpaca trio. We only welcomed our alpacas to Misty Mountain a few months ago, so he is still quite shy and we’re slowly earning his trust. The alpacas originally joined us for their beautiful fleece, which I’m very excited to turn into yarn! We’re also hoping Duke and the girls will eventually take our sheep under their wing and become their fluffy protectors — once we convince everyone to be friends!
Beatrice
Beatrice is one of our beautiful new alpaca girls and another member of our little royal family. She is still quite shy, so we’re slowly getting to know her and earning her trust. To our surprise, Beatrice also arrived pregnant and is expecting a cria towards the end of the year! Breeding alpacas was definitely not on the agenda, but we’re very excited for our first alpaca baby — and I certainly won’t complain about having a little more fleece to spin!
Eugenie
Eugenie completes our little royal alpaca trio. Like Beatrice and Duke, she is still a little shy, but we’re looking forward to seeing her personality come out as she settles into life at Misty Mountain. Eugenie is also expecting a surprise cria towards the end of the year, making our first year with alpacas a little more exciting than we planned!
Our Cavoodle
Lady
Lady is our beloved Cavoodle who is firmly convinced she’s a Maremma. Rain, hail or shine, she comes out every day to help feed the animals and drive the buggy. The goats don’t particularly like her, but she doesn’t seem to mind — and we have *finally* convinced her that chasing the guinea fowl and chickens is not part of her job description! You’ll usually find Lady covered in burrs, rolled in something questionable or completely muddy from having free rein of the farm. She is well and truly a farm dog and has absolutely no idea this isn’t the normal life of a Cavoodle. Of course, she still sleeps in our bed every night (after a bath of course!). She is well and truly living her absolute best life.
Our Pet Goats
Matilda
Matilda is sister to Milly and Maya and a much-loved matriarch of our herd. Sadly, after a traumatic first birth requiring an emergency caesarean, she was retired from breeding. While we would have loved more of her beautiful colouring, we have high hopes for her lineage through her daughter Penny. These days Matilda enjoys the easy life — and she has absolutely earned it!
Lily
Lily is Matilda's granddaughter, and she is just the most beautiful little girl. We had such high hopes for breeding her and passing along Matilda's stunning genetics — but life had other plans. Lily has three nipples, and after an accident she had one of her front toes amputated, leaving her with just the one. These things make her unsuitable for breeding and mean she requires a little extra care and attention. So instead, Lily joined our family as a cherished pet — and honestly, we wouldn't have it any other way. She is the sweetest, most loveable little thing, and we adore her completely.
